Does Your Employee Handbook Need a Revision?

Do you have new policies that should be added to your Employee Handbook?

Have you changed the way you do business? Have you changed how your employees perform their work? Are the policy changes temporary or permanent?  A memo to employees can be used to convey Temporary policies.  Whereas, permanent policy changes should be added to your Handbook.  For example, a telework policy.  It depends on whether you plan to continue to allow employees to telework. Change can be difficult.  However, it is important to convey those changes to your employees.  Clear policies will result in better compliance and enforceability.

Similarly, consider whether you need to revise other policies such as your Safety Manual.

What new laws & regulations impact your business that require a Handbook revision?

Every year, new laws and regulations are passed.  Make sure your Employee Handbook complies with the new State and local laws and regulations.  In addition to revising your policies, are you conveying the new policies to your employees?  Do you have employee meetings? Safety meetings?  A failure to inform employees of policy changes or having outdated policies can be the source of misunderstandings between the Company and its employees and/or can be a basis for employee litigation.
